Amazon FBA Inventory Management & Reorder Alerts

4.8 / 5 from 6 Amazon sellers

A stock-out is the most expensive thing that can happen to a ranking ASIN, and it is entirely predictable. The data needed to see it coming — sale rate, current cover, lead time — already exists. It is just never in one place.

Days of cover, not units on hand

"400 units in stock" means nothing on its own. Four hundred units of a SKU selling eight a day is seven weeks of cover; the same four hundred on a SKU selling ninety a day is four days and you are already late to reorder. Amazon inventory management software should lead with cover measured in days against your actual manufacturing and inbound lead time, not with a raw count.

Why a stock-out costs more than the lost orders

Going out of stock does not pause your ranking, it resets it. Sales velocity is a ranking input, so an ASIN that is unavailable for two weeks loses position, and when stock returns it restarts lower and has to rebuild. The true cost is the lost orders plus the recovery period plus the ad spend needed to buy back the visibility.

The other direction: overstock

  • Long-term storage fees on units aged past the threshold, charged monthly and easy to miss.
  • Stranded inventory — units in the FC with no active listing, earning nothing while costing storage.
  • Capital tied up in slow SKUs that could be funding fast ones.
  • Removal and disposal costs when the stock finally has to be cleared.

Where the stock actually sits

In India, fulfilment-centre distribution decides delivery promise, and delivery promise decides conversion. Two sellers with identical stock levels can convert very differently if one has units spread across regional FCs and the other has everything in a single location. ListingPilot maps stock by FC so you can see coverage gaps rather than assume national availability. For the monthly warehouse ledger (ending stock, in-transit, units shipped by region) plus buyer-state sales, see Amazon state-wise sales and stock.

Inventory decisions are profit decisions — pair this with the P&L dashboard to see whether a SKU deserves the restock, return analytics to catch units coming back unsellable, and settlement reconciliation to claim reimbursements on stock Amazon lost or damaged.
