Amazon Listing Template and Builder: Check Your Copy Before You Publish

4.8 / 5 from 6 Amazon sellers
Short answer

ListingPilot is not an AI listing generator. It does not write copy for you. Use the template below, write the copy yourself or with your own AI tool, then use ListingPilot to fill Amazon’s required fields, check the listing with Listing Quality Score, run Amazon’s validation preview and push it to Amazon through SP-API.

Plenty of sellers now draft listings with ChatGPT, Gemini or a similar tool. That part is quick. The slow and risky part comes after: making sure the draft fits Amazon’s rules for your category, that the required attributes are filled, that the keywords match what shoppers actually buy on, and that Amazon accepts the upload. This page gives you a template for the copy and shows exactly where ListingPilot helps after you have it.

Amazon listing template (copy this)

Fill one block per product. Write from real product facts, not competitor titles: dimensions, materials, what is in the box, certifications and who it is for. If you use an AI tool, give it these facts and this structure, then check every line it returns.

Title: Brand + product type + key feature + size / colour / pack count

Bullet 1: Main benefit, backed by the feature that delivers it

Bullet 2: Material, build or ingredients

Bullet 3: Size, fit or compatibility (what it works with)

Bullet 4: How to use or care for it

Bullet 5: What is in the box, warranty or certification

Description: 2–4 short paragraphs: who it is for, use cases, specs

Backend search terms: synonyms, spellings and Hinglish or regional terms not already in the title; no brand names you do not own, no repeats

Required attributes: whatever your product type asks for (brand, item type, colour, size, material, item weight, package dimensions…)

amazon.in extras: MRP, GST-inclusive selling price, HSN code, country of origin, manufacturer / packer / importer details

Checklist before you publish

  • Title length. Amazon’s January 2025 title requirements cap most categories at 200 characters. On amazon.com, Amazon announced that from 27 July 2026 titles outside media must be 75 characters or less, with up to 125 characters of “Item Highlights” alongside. Check the current limit for amazon.in and your category in Seller Central before you publish.
  • Repeated words and symbols. No word more than twice (articles, prepositions and conjunctions excepted), and no ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ unless they are part of your brand name.
  • Claims. Remove anything you cannot prove: “best”, “No. 1”, medical claims, fake certifications, and any feature the AI added that the product does not have.
  • Five bullets, one idea each. Keep them readable on mobile and avoid stuffing keywords.
  • Backend terms. Stay within Amazon’s byte limit for search terms (250 bytes on amazon.com) and do not repeat words that are already in the title.
  • Images and A+. Copy will not rescue a listing with one photo. Aim for a full image set and add A+ content if you are brand registered.
  • India compliance. Price at or below MRP, Legal Metrology details filled, and BIS or FSSAI details where your category needs them.

How ListingPilot helps once the copy is written

  1. Pick what you are creating. The new listing wizard asks whether this is a standalone product, a variation parent or a variation child. For a product that already exists on Amazon, search by ASIN, UPC, EAN, GTIN or ISBN and add your offer to it.
  2. Fill only the fields Amazon needs. Pick the product type and the wizard loads Amazon’s live product type definition, so you see the required fields for that type instead of a generic flat file. Paste in your title, bullets and description.
  3. Preview errors before anything goes live. The validation step sends the listing to Amazon as a preview and shows Amazon’s own issues, or “Amazon found no issues — safe to submit”. Nothing changes on Amazon until you submit.
  4. Check the result. After you submit you get Amazon’s submission ID and a live-status check showing whether the ASIN is discoverable and buyable, plus any issues Amazon reports.
  5. Score it and improve it. The Listing Quality Score gives points for the title (length against the title limit, repeated words), bullets, description length, images, A+ content, rating and reviews, and lists what is missing. Edit and push fixes from the listing optimizer, or many SKUs at once with the bulk listing tool, which queues updates at Amazon’s rate limit.
  6. Close keyword gaps. The keyword tracker shows the ad search terms that convert for each ASIN and those that get clicks without sales. Terms that sell but are missing from your copy are the first ones to add. This needs Amazon Ads connected.

Amazon listing template and builder: FAQs

Does ListingPilot generate Amazon listings with AI?
No. ListingPilot does not write titles, bullets or descriptions with AI. You write the copy yourself or with your own AI tool, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, and ListingPilot helps you check it, fill Amazon’s required fields, run Amazon’s validation preview and push it to Amazon through SP-API.
What should an Amazon listing template include?
At minimum: a title, up to five bullet points, a product description, backend search terms, and the attributes your product type requires, such as brand, item type, size or colour, material and package details. For amazon.in, also keep MRP, GST-inclusive price, country of origin and manufacturer or packer details ready, because Legal Metrology rules require them on many products.
Is it safe to paste ChatGPT output straight into an Amazon listing?
Not without checking it. AI drafts often invent features, repeat keywords, use banned characters or claims, and ignore your category’s required attributes. Check every fact against the product, keep to Amazon’s title rules, and run a validation preview before you publish. In ListingPilot that preview shows Amazon’s own error messages without changing the live listing.
Can ListingPilot create a new Amazon listing?
Yes. The new listing wizard creates a standalone product, a variation parent or a variation child through SP-API. It can also add your offer to an existing ASIN found by ASIN, UPC, EAN, GTIN or ISBN. The fields come from Amazon’s live product type definitions, so you are only asked for what that product type needs.
Which keywords should go into my listing?
Start with search terms that already convert in your Sponsored Products campaigns, then add terms that get clicks but no sales only if they truly describe the product. ListingPilot’s Keywords view sorts your ad search terms into converting, opportunity and wasting groups, which gives you a shortlist to place in the title, bullets or backend terms. It does not estimate search volume.
